Market Availability: Extremely Rare
Cold-Hardy: NoVariety: Trinitario [Hispaniola Grade].
The Trinitario is a hybrid of two of the four main varieties -- Forastero & Criollo. The flavours of the beans are rich and deep. Natalija & I tried these decadent beans at the plantation we visited. The Hispaniola grade of Cacao is grown more for high-level, fine chocolate.
Cacao grows best as an understory tree, where it's not receiving too much harsh direct sun.
In Canada, growing these outdoors under a lesser-strength sun provides for excellent development
Each plant comes in its own plastic pot with proper drainage. This beautiful plant & fruit comes from the Northern peninsulas of of the Dominican Republic near Damajagua. These plants love heat and humidity. Will not do well at room temperature and will need at least 18-25C with 60% humidity.
These plants also require excellent drainage or can be susceptible to root rot very quickly.
Please be advised that due to the sensitivity of this plant, shipping only applicable when temperatures are in between 5C and 25C.
Shipping can only be done when an insulated box is purchased:
Successfully growing this tree indoors is extremely rewarding!
